New member - Prof. Dr. Bianca May

At the 101st plenary meeting of the Central European Brewing Technology Analysis Commission (MEBAK) on October 6th 2023 in Oberthulba, Prof. Dr Bianca May was unanimously elected as a full member.

Bianca May studied food chemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University/Frankfurt am Main (2004-2008) and then successfully completed her 2nd state examination (2008-2009) as part of her training as a state-certified food chemist, after a 6-month stay at the Teaching and Research Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing/Weinsberg and a 6-month internship at the Hessian State Laboratory/Wiesbaden. She then completed her doctorate from 2009 to 2015 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität/Bonn in the field of bioanalytics on the "Biosynthesis and analysis of sesquiterpenes in grapes (Vitis vinifera)" and worked there in parallel as a research assistant in the field of food chemistry.

In 2015, Bianca May moved to Hochschule Geisenheim University, where she worked for five years as a research assistant in the field of beverage research and was appointed Professor of Wine and Beverage Chemistry (Hochschule Geisenheim University) in 2020. Her current areas of research include the technologically induced input of heavy metals during beverage production and the release of heavy metals by various process agents, such as filter aids.  She has also been the course director for the Bachelor's degree programme in Beverage Technology since 2018 and is responsible for the further development of the programme.

The MEBAK expert group is delighted to welcome Prof Dr Bianca May to its ranks.
