W-000.35.115 [2021-03] Ozone in Water, Photometric Determination with Indigo Trisulfonate

Application/Purpose

This method describes how to determine ozone in water using indigo trisulfonate.

This method is suitable for determining ozone at concentrations within the range of 0.05–10 mg/l and can also be employed for water samples with higher organic loads.

Scope of Application

Water intended for use as an ingredient in the production of beer (brewing liquor) or other foods

Ozone is primarily used for the disinfection of drinking water. In order to do so, a precise value for the ozone concentration in the water is required.

Principle

Ozone causes the color of indigo trisulfonate to disappear in a stoichiometric reaction. The decrease in absorbance is measured at a wavelength of 600 nm.
