W-000.35.110 [2021-03] Ozone in Water, Photometric Determination with N,N-Diethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (DPD)

Application/Purpose

The method is suitable for determining the ozone content at concentrations between 0.02 and 2.5 mg/l, especially for water samples with a low organic load.

Scope of Application

Water intended for use as an ingredient in the production of beer (brewing liquor) or other foods

Ozone is primarily used for the disinfection of drinking water. In order to do so, a precise value for the ozone concentration in the water is required.

Principle

Ozone oxidizes iodide to iodine, which reacts with DPD to form a red color. The absorbance is measured at a pH of 6 and at a wavelength of 510 nm.
