Application/Purpose

Preparation of the sample for further analysis; removal of the carbon dioxide from the sample that will interfere with the analysis; e.g., the application of the Balling formula necessitates that beer be degassed. In doing so, be aware that the beer may contain a low residual concentration of CO2 and measures should be taken to prevent the loss of alcohol through evaporation.

Principle

The sample freed of the dissolved carbon dioxide through shaking and filtration of the liquid.
