Spectrophotometric determination of colour attempts to eliminate the subjective influences of the human eye and differences in colour impression when comparing beer samples with the EBC colour disc. This instrumental method is the official reference method and can be used for operational wort, beer and laboratory wort (congress wort).
The absorbance is measured in a 10 mm cuvette at a wavelength of exactly 430 nm. The colour in EBC units is obtained by conversion with a suitable factor.
