B-420.14.100 [2020-10] Membrane Filter Test, ESSER

Application/Purpose

Determination of the filterability is performed by filtering beer through a membrane filter under constant pressure. This allows a prediction of the filtration properties of beer and is quite meaningful in the review of measures to improve the filterability. The volume of the filtrate exiting the filter in the process is determined over time.

Scope of Application

Beer

Principle

Beer chilled to 0 °C is filtered through a membrane filter at that temperature under constant pressure. The amount of filtrate is recorded periodically during filtration. The amount of filtrate is used as the basis for a characteristic number, which serves as a comparison of the filterability of the sample.
