For many years now, the Central European Commission for Brewing Analysis (MEBAK) has made it its mission to collect, evaluate and publish all analysis methods pertaining to brewing and beverage production.
With the publication of the volume “Raw Materials”, which originally appeared in German in 2006 under the title “Rohstoffe”, MEBAK is continuing to pursue this goal by publishing translations of each of their most current collections of analysis methods in the English language.
The present volume contains a collection of analysis methods used for assessing the quality of barley, adjuncts, malt, hops and hop products. Techniques for collecting standardized samples and also for conducting traditional visual and physical inspections are described alongside fundamental analysis methods for the valuable substances found in raw materials as well as instrumental analysis procedures for the relevant individual compounds. Additionally, the information pertaining to the quality characteristics of the individual raw materials is of valuable assistance for evaluating acquired or calculated data. The final chapter contains an introduction to validating analysis methods.
This collection of analysis methods contributes not only to the education of students around the world but also provides practical support for quality assurance in breweries and malthouses.
